Four trades where the payment mix is the business case.

Every sector has a method its customers expect and a method that quietly costs it money. These are the four where getting the mix right shows up in the accounts fastest.

Health

Large, considered payments where a declined card is a cancelled appointment.

Health payments are infrequent, sizeable and booked in advance — the exact profile a card limit refuses. A decline is not a retry; it is a slot that goes empty and a patient who has to be called. Offering bank transfer alongside cards means the payment is limited by the balance rather than by a card ceiling, and the answer arrives before the appointment does.

Travel

High tickets, thin margins, and chargeback exposure that lasts as long as the trip does.

A travel booking is a high-value payment whose chargeback window stays open long after the trip is taken, on a margin that cannot absorb one. Cards have to be there — nobody books a holiday without one to hand — but every booking taken by bank transfer instead is a booking that cannot be reversed months later, and the ticket size makes the fee difference concrete rather than theoretical.

E-Commerce

Where a percentage point of conversion is the whole year's growth.

Conversion is won and lost on the last screen. Some customers want a card, some want a wallet they can tap, and in Brazil most of them want Pix. A checkout carrying the method each customer already prefers is worth more than any argument about which method is best — and in a trade where a point of conversion is the growth plan, that is the whole case.

Gaming

Frequent top-ups, fast payouts, and card acceptance that varies by market.

Top-ups are frequent and small, so per-transaction costs compound faster here than anywhere. Payouts are expected quickly and are awkward to send back to a card, which is what batch payouts and bank destinations are for. And card acceptance for the sector varies by issuer and market in ways outside your control — a bank transfer or a local method is not subject to a scheme's opinion of your category.

Nothing on this page claims a customer, a volume or a case study. When there are named references to publish, they belong here and they will be worth more than the argument above them.
